Expansion of the Student of the MiNDS Association (SOMA)
The Student of the Minds Association (SOMA) is a student group led by Neuroscience graduate students, for Neuroscience graduate students. Our mission is to provide a safe and social environment for the student body, to foster connection amongst each other and most importantly, to make graduate life a little more fun! While graduate school is an exciting time filled with opportunities for growth, it can also quickly feel isolating and overwhelming. SOMA will provide that important social link where students can come together outside of their academic spaces to share experiences and support one another in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
Throughout the year, we host a variety of different events. Last year, for example, students came together for a costume contest and pumpkin carving event. We also hosted a clay painting night at Play-with-Clay on Locke Street which gave the students the opportunity to be creative and bring home their creations.
Traditionally, SOMA has been led by two co-presidents. However, this year we decided to expand the leadership team in order to bring more MiNDS together. By doing so, we hope to be able to host more events and diversify the types of events we put together. Please see the members of the first-ever SOMA team below. We had a lot of fun last year and are hoping to create the same sort of environment this year. We look forward to seeing you all soon :)
