BrainWaves: The Neuroscience Graduate Program Newsletter

Our New Program Social Media Accounts

Author: Bahar Amani

Social media has become a great way for the scientific community to connect with the public. The interdisciplinary nature of our program makes it unique among graduate programs at McMaster University. By creating social media accounts for the Neuroscience Graduate Program, we can engage scientists and the public in the diverse research and other activities of the students and faculty in our program, while also creating a platform for our members to stay up to date with program events. More specifically, our Twitter account gives us the opportunity to showcase our students’ involvement in conferences, their awards, and extracurricular activities on a local, national and international scale.

For example, over the past few weeks we’ve posted about our students’ presentations at the Faculty of Health Sciences Research Plenary, Psychiatry Research Day and the Southern Ontario Neuroscience Association (SONA) meeting. We’ve also highlighted our student outreach program, “Out of Our Minds,” that engages high school students in neuroscience. We are hoping to share our students’ future research accomplishments (e.g., publications, presentations, and awards) and any relevant neuroscience related news or events.
