The 3rdAnnual Neuroscience Symposium: Cellular and Immunological Basis of Mood Disorders

AUTHORS:Nicole Greisman

For the third consecutive year, our program director Dr. Flavio Kapczinski and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences will be hosting a symposium to highlight the expanding research activities in the field of neuroscience. The 3rd Annual Neuroscience Symposium: Cellular and Immunological Basis of Mood Disorders will take place at St. Joe’s West 5th Campus on January 17, 2020. As such, we are delighted to host researchers from Institut Pasteur and Université Bordeaux in France, Lieber Institut for Brain Development in the US, Queen’s University, and McMaster University. Lectures from this elite team of scientists will cover the topics of:

  •  Stem cell technologies to determine the intersection between genetic and developmental risk in brain and behaviour disorders
  •  In vitro experiments to identify molecular (exosomal) mechanisms of mood disorders, following hypothesis testing in non-human primates and rodent models
  •  Brain plasticity in late neurogenesis; establishing the causality between the recruitment of new neurons and circuit functioning at a cognitive level
  •  Nutrition and psychoimmunology
  •  Interaction of lymphoid cells and the microenvironment interact to define health and immunity of the host

Attendees from the Neuroscience Graduate Program will have the opportunity to participate in a poster session and competition. Lunch will be provided, and registration is free of charge. For students interested in international research and exchange, this is a fantastic opportunity to network with the world’s leading neuroscientists!
