SOMA Halloween Party: Stranger MiNDS

AUTHOR: Lisa Dyce

On Monday, October 30th, the Students of MiNDS Association (SOMA) hosted a Halloween party for MiNDS graduate students. It was the perfect time for us to catch up with old friends, meet new students in the program and celebrate Halloween (not to mention a great time for the first year MiNDS students to celebrate the end of midterms)! We wrapped our fellow students in toilet paper and competed for the title of Best Dressed Mummy, got in touch with our creative sides while painting Halloween decorations and kept our spooky spirits high with yummy Halloween-themed treats. Check out all of the fun below!

The theme for this year’s event was inspired by the popular show Stranger Things and the scene was set with spooky decorations including the infamous wall of Christmas lights strung above the alphabet. There were also delicious alphabet brownies that disappeared before a photo could capture them! SOMA also put together a Halloween-themed photo booth and kept the hungry party-goers fueled for fun with pizza, chips and of course, Halloween candy.

Two MiNDS students (above left) chose to show off their impressive homemade Halloween masks. Can you guess who they are? Hint: You can find these graduate students working hard in the Psychology Building and at every MiNDS event year-round!

Meanwhile, MiNDS students Aya (above right), Chris, John and Steven (below) sport their Halloween spirit, passion for neuroscience and great sense of style at this year’s photo booth!

MiNDS students show that they’re not only creative when identifying and addressing gaps in neuroscience research – they’re painters, too!

SOMA President Gésine and President Elect Gabriella celebrate another successful social in style. The MiNDS students had an amazing time socializing and getting in touch with their creative sides this Halloween and would like to thank the SOMA team for all of their hard work putting together this fun night! We’re already excited for next year’s Halloween celebrations and hope to see you there!
